The Department of National Defence has authorized the use of the Vernon Military Camp to lodge fire evacuees and firefighting personnel.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said earlier today the federal government is closely monitoring the fires in Kelowna and Yellowknife, adding that members of the Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed to B.C.
In past regional fire events, troops have used the Vernon Military Camp as a base for operations.
The province announced today 100 Mexican firefighters will arrive in B.C. tomorrow and 200 from South Africa by Friday, most will be dedicated to the Central Okanagan fires, which B.C. Wildfire Service is calling the “Grouse” complex.
