Evacuation order expanded in Shuswap

The evacuation order for the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire has been expanded.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District said 55 properties on Rawson Road in Electoral Area F have been added to the evacuation order after earlier having been on evacuation alert.

The order covers all properties from 2597 TO 2741 Rawson Road in CSRD Electoral Area F.

Combined with the earlier 32 properties ordered to leave, there are now 92 properties covered by the order.

Meantime, an evacuation alert was issued late Wednesday night (Aug. 2) by the CSRD for the northern reach of Tsutswecw Provincial Park in Electoral Area F.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has issued an evacuation order in relation to the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire.

The CSRD issued the order Wednesday, August 2, for 37 properties in Electoral Area F between 2893 and 2900 Rawson Road.

People in the affected area should immediately gather their family and pets; lock all doors and windows, shut off the gas and all electronic devices aside from refrigerators and freezers; gather critical items like medication, glasses, important documents and identification; and then proceed immediately to the Adams Lake Ferry to leave the area.

People should then check in at the Reception Centre at Quaaout Lodge, located at 1663 Little Shuswap Lake Road in Chase.

An Evacuation Alert remains in place for 55 properties in the area.

At last update at 7:03 p.m. Wednesday, the B.C. Wildfire Service stated the Adams Lake wildfire was 2,527 hectares in size and classified as Out of Control.

There were 11 helicopters and an Incident Response Team assigned to the area, and 10 pieces of heavy equipment were on scene in the area most at risk of the Adams Lake wildfire.
