Council to confirm baseball-dog park fence plan for Marshall Fields

Vernon city council will be reaffirming the fence line planned for around the baseball diamonds and dog park at Marshall Fields.

At the regular council meeting June 12, council approved a fence line that follows the original plan, but then cuts down adjacent to the first base line of the west baseball field.

This plan was proposed as it left a large, fenced-off segment for ball players to warm up and for spectators to sit between the two diamonds, but also didn’t take too much away from the dog park.

At the regular meeting Monday, June 26, Councillor Akbal Mund is expected to introduce a reconsideration motion of the resolution passed related to the fence, and enter an updated drawing of the proposed fencing.

The four-foot high fence would run parallel to the ball diamond’s fence line and establish a 12 metre wide area for spectators and warm up on the west side of the diamond farthest from the parking lot.

It will also be established that the cost to install the fencing will not exceed $45,000. Vernon Minor Baseball is providing $10,000 for the project and the remainder will be covered by the city’s 2022 unexpended uncommitted funds.
