Council seeks more info on Friesen’s rezoning

Coldstream council is asking for additional information on a rezoning request by Friesen’s Countrytyme Gardens on Kalamalka Road.

Council wants to ensure that only the current uses at the site are authorized after concerns were raised by nearby residents.

The elected reps also want to know more about the restaurant regulations in the Agricultural Land Reserve.

“Council tabled a decision on the recommended motion pending clarification on the square footage of the existing restaurant, including the existing patio, and available parking stalls. The matter will be brought forward at the next council meeting,” Trevor Seibel, district CAO, said.

The business, owned by Coldstream resident Aaron Luprypa, is looking to get in synch with district bylaws, and after that, may consider expanding in the future.

The rezoning application for the site at 9172 Kalamalka Road is to change from rural two zone (RU-ALR) to an agricultural comprehensive development zone (CDA1)

At the Tuesday, May 23 meeting, district staff was recommending the rezoning bylaw be given second reading by council, and to set a date for a public hearing.
