More homes in Cache Creek have been evacuated due to local flooding.

The Cache Creek Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) issued an evacuation order for all units at the Sage & Sands Mobile Home Park at 701 Trans-Canada Highway Tuesday (May 9) evening due to the immediate danger caused by the flooding of the Bonaparte River.

It followed a separate evacuation order for dozens of properties on Nugget Road, Collins Road and Old Cariboo Road due to the Bonaparte River one hour earlier.

The EOC states RCMP members and other agencies will speed up the evacuation process.

Residents affected by the evacuation order are asked to leave the area immediately, along with:

  • Registering at the Emergency Support Services Reception Centre at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops
  • Shutting off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers
  • Closing all windows and doors
  • Closing, but nocking, all gates
  • Taking critical items such as government-issued identification, medications, and eyeglasses
  • Taking pets in pet kennels or on a leash

Earlier Tuesday, Cache Creek officials said they were cautiously optimistic as the river had not yet spilled its banks.

The Cache Creek waterway continues to recede and evacuation orders and alerts near that creek are slowly being lifted.
