“Don’t swing into pain this spring”

Golf season is here and for many week-end warriors tired of watching golf on television, the urge to rush to the course is overwhelming.

Like any sport it is important to get prepared for the season, or risk an injury that could put you back on the couch watching instead of playing.

The driving range may be what some people are thinking, but there is another secret weapon to get your game on par early, the chiropractor.

“Two of the most important joints involved in the golf swing are the Sacroiliac (SI) joints in your lower back. Think about these 2 joints as the only 2 joints holding your upper and lower body together, because they are the only 2 joints holding your upper and lower body together,” All Care Chiropractic and Laser owner Cameron Grant D.C.said. “When these joints are not moving properly, it is very hard to rotate in the backswing and then again on the follow through. One of the most important things you can do in the spring to help your golf swing and help save your back, is to see a Chiropractor to make sure your Sacroiliac joints are moving properly.”

When these Two  SI joints are not moving in their full range of motion, the golf swing will place more stress on the facet joints and muscles of the lower back. This can lead to overuse, muscle spasm, and long term can cause osteoarthritis in the lower back.

“Chiropractors work to restore proper motion in joints and then ‘active’ people maintain that motion by staying active,” Cameron added.

While golf is a common sport for SI injuries jumping into any spring activity from gardening to soccer deserves a thoughtful approach.

“Before starting any ‘seasonal’ activity, it is wise to see your Chiropractor to get things moving as close to it’s normal range of motion as possible,” Cameron said.”Most Chiropractors will give you stretches and strengthening exercises to prevent future injury and to maintain proper joint movement as you age (gracefully)”
