Traffic blitz nets dozens of distracted drivers
Several dozen drivers have received a costly reminder to leave their phone alone.
The Kelowna RCMP’s municipal traffic section recently held a two-day “Distracted Driving Blitz” at several locations around the city. Mounties say 45 violation tickets were issued.
“Drivers need to travel with care,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer, said. “The roads are dry and the sun has been shining as of late, but that is no reason to drive carelessly, putting yourself or other motorists at risk.”
Of the 45 drivers stopped during the campaign, the majority of the fines (40) were for districted driving including using an electronic device while driving and texting while driving. The fine for those infractions (first offence) is $368 plus four penalty points.
