Premium Black Garden Soil delivered right to your door

It is a sure sign of spring when the BigYellowBags of top grade black garden soil start showing up in Okanagan yards.

BigYellowBag started in 1994 and has grown into a network of farms and soil delivery companies across North America.

Enderby based Reimer’s Farm Service and Landscape Supply added the BigYellowBag feature to the legacy business 10 years ago. Reimer’s have been in business since 1988, 35 years and provide all kinds of additional services.

“BigYellowBag has allowed us to broaden our sales to the retail customer, that is only looking for a small volume of material, more than you want to get in 20 litre bags and less than a full truck load. With our experience in agriculture, transportation and commodities, we know the value of premium soil and landscape materials, which enables us to provide service and products that are unmatched in quality,” Owner Kevin Reimer said.
According to Statistics Canada the number of gardeners continues to grow, fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic and it is expected to keep growing with inflation hitting consumers hard. The trend has Reimer’s well positioned for growth.

Nationally total sales were up 7.5% to $4.7 billion in 2021. Budding and seasoned gardeners paid 7.3 percent more for greenhouse plants and flowers in 2021 than the previous year, for a total of $1.8 billion in sales. Potted plants accounted for more than half of total sales (54.7%) to total $995.2 million (+10.1%).

“Interest in home food production continues to grow, as well as the ease of having home delivery of various garden and landscape products,” Reimer said.”Feedback has been very positive. Rapid and steady market growth, and customers that return year after year are the biggest compliment to our products and service.”

With nearly 2,400 first party Google reviews customers are pleased with the service. “Always great! We have gotten at least one bag a year for many years and it’s always seamless,” stated a review from Fall 2022.

The company offers 11 different products from black garden soil to sand box sand, and the bags are designed to unload easily.

Reimer’s delivers across the Thompson-Okanagan.
“During the bag delivery season, order date to delivery date can range from 2 to 10 days depending on what day of the week the order is placed. We get to most areas once a week,” Reimer said
The benefit of the bags versus truck delivery is they can be placed in fairly tight locations.
“Bags are placed with a small forklift that rides on the back of the delivery trailer. Forklifts are 8 feet wide so we recommend at least 10 feet wide to allow forklift access. Typically, if you can drive a car there, we can place the bag there. The exception is carports and garages, we do not go under roof overhangs due to risk of damaging property,” Reimer stated.
The bags are not picked up unless another delivery is being made to the same location. The bags can be dropped off at different locations from Kamloops to Penticton with a $5 donation made to local food banks at the end of the season. Last year the company donated $20,000 to area food banks.
