Two local organizations are being supported through Community Gaming Grants.

A total of $5.3-million in provincial funds is being provided to 49 non-profits across B.C. for capital projects related to recreational, health and safety and social programs in communities in 2023.

Among those recipients are two from Vernon.

The Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society is receiving a grant of $200,000. That will be used to purchase an internal helicopter winch and mandatory certificates so the organization can provide a dedicated air resource to the Okanagan and surrounding region.

Air Rescue One is the call sign for Vernon Search and Rescue’s Helicopter Winch Rescue Team.

Additionally, the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club is receiving a $22,500 grant to purchase replacement coach/safety boats, motors and rowing shells.

Elsewhere in the region, the Kelowna Visual and Performing Arts Centre Society is getting $45,500 to replace the lighting at the Mary Irwin Theatre.

“We love our communities! This capital project funding supports not-for-profit organizations that work to create vibrant and healthy communities,” Anne Kang, Minister of Municipal Affairs, said.

“Through Community Gaming Grants, we help ensure not-for-profit organizations can continue to provide the vital services people in the province depend on.”
