Jan 20, 2023 | 11:00 AM

Vernon and area residents will have an alternative transportation option as of later this month.

The Canadian ride sharing service Uride has announced it will begin operating in Vernon starting at 3 p.m. Friday, January 27. It will be the city’s first ride sharing service.

To mark the launch, riders in Vernon will receive discount offers on their first ride.

“The people of Vernon have been asking for a safe, reliable and affordable transportation option for a long, long time,” Ravi Dhami, Western Canada operations manager for Uride, said.

“With the massive success we’ve had in two bordering cities, Kelowna and Kamloops, we couldn’t be more excited to get our operations in Vernon up and running. We have a team of dedicated drivers looking forward to getting on the road and ensuring the days of long wait times are a thing of the past.”

The Uride app can be found on the App Store and the Google Play Store.

According to its website, Uride is already available in Kelowna, Kamloops and Prince George with Victoria and Nanaimo joining Vernon on the expansion list.

Uride also has operations in Ontario, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick
