City gets grants to add features to new park

The city of Kelowna has received over $1.1 million in government grants to be used for Pandosy Waterfront Park.

One grant will fund an elevated pier and handrail, and paddle buoys, while the other will go toward accessibility and inclusivity features at the park.

The Provincial Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program is providing $390,925 and the Federal Canada Community Revitalization Fund is contributing $750,000.

In other Kelowna council news:

Rutland rental housing

A rezoning was considered by council for a six-storey apartment building with 83 rental housing on three lots, 285 and 305 Dougall Road North and 365 McIntosh Road.

Final adoption is contingent on council’s consideration of a development permit at a later date.

Upper Mission multi-family

Council agreed to hold a public hearing around a rezoning application for a development adjacent to Kuiper’s Peak Mountain Park.

The proposal at 949 Hewetson Court is part of The Ponds neighbourhood and includes 31 townhomes.

An area structure plan for The Ponds neighbourhood was adopted by council in 2007 and has included several phases.

Council gave first reading and forwarded the proposal to the February 14 public hearing.

Kelowna Springs golf course

Coun. Luke Stack brought a notice of motion to council, asking to amend the 2040 official community plan to change the future land use designation of the Kelowna Springs golf course to the private recreational designation from industrial designation.

A draft motion is expected to come before council on January 16.
