A new industrial business has been given the green light to proceed on the former glass plant site in Lavington.

Trinity Green Properties plans to construct a 24,000 square foot wood truss manufacturing plant at 9623 Hill Drive, as part of the Okanagan Eco Industrial Park.

The proponent, PBS Truss Manufacturing, will own and operate the facility which will provide building material to Pro Builders Supply. That business is headquartered in Penticton and operates Home Hardware stores in Penticton, Osoyoos, Kelowna, Olds and Canmore.

The industrial land was formerly the Owens Illinois Consumers Glass Plant which operated from 1969 to 2008.

At its meeting Monday (Jan. 9), Coldstream council approved a development permit for the strata lot with district staff saying the development is consistent with land uses within the Official Community Plan and the zoning bylaw.

“The proponent anticipates 20 to 25 full-time permanent positions will be employed at the truss plant during Phase 1. After completion of Phase 2, it is anticipated that 30 to 35 full-time permanent positions will be working from the site,” said a staff report to council.

Positions will include production staff, designers, administrative support and management.

The truss making plant is expected to operate Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Projected inbound freight is anticipated to be roughly two to four semi-trucks per week, with more frequent outbound traffic anticipated to be roughly three to five times per day. However, outbound deliveries will be undertaken by commercial vehicles weighting 5-tons or less,” the staff report added.

The facility is not intended for retail customer use.
