UPDATE: 10:10 a.m.

An investigation into an overnight break-in is the reason a Vernon restaurant was closed down this morning.

RCMP received a report of a break, enter and theft around 4 a.m. at the Tim Hortons in the 3500 block of 27th Street, next to Beairsto Elementary.

“The break-in is believed to have occurred sometime between 1 and 2 a.m. when a person forced their way into the business and stole a number of items from inside,” Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer, said.

Officers secured the scene and the RCMP’s forensic identification section is conducting a detailed collection of any physical evidence to support the investigation.

Police have now completed their work and have released the scene back to the business.

Mounties are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in that area between midnight and 2 a.m., or who has information about the break and enter to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or by leaving a tip online at www.nokscrimestoppers.com.
