A junior hockey player from Coldstream is among the prospects on the 2023 NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch list.

Austin Roest was named on the list as a C prospect, indicating he could be selected in the fourth to sixth rounds of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

The 18-year-old Roest currently plays centre for the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. He recorded nine goals and 10 assists in 10 WHL games with the Silvertips this season.

In the 2021-22 season, Roest found the back of the net 13 times and assisted on 19 goals.

Roest is one of 43 WHLers on the Players to Watch list, compiled by NHL Central Scouting.

His father is Stacy Roest, assistant general manager and director of player development for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.

Other players on the list include Kelowna Rockets’ left winger Andrew Cristall and defenseman Caden Price (B prospects), Kamloops Blazers’ defenseman Kaden Hammell and right winger Connor Levis (B prospects).

B prospects are forecast to be potentially picked in the second or third rounds of the draft, which is set to go June 28 and 29, 2023 in Nashville.

No WHL players from the region, or currently playing for area teams, were named A prospects, who are expected to be picked in the first round.
