Voting day nears, final meeting for current Vernon council

Vernon’s current city council will have their last meeting next week.

The current council consisting of Mayor Victor Cumming and councillors Scott Anderson, Teresa Durning, Kelly Fehr, Kari Gares, Akbal Mund and Brian Quiring will close out their four year term Tuesday (Oct. 11).

The meeting comes following the Thanksgiving long weekend and ahead of advance voting days on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as election day on Saturday.

Advance voting will held be at Vernon’s Council Chambers from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both Oct. 12 and 13. General voting on Oct. 15 will be available at the Recreation Centre Auditorium, Fulton Secondary School and Vernon Secondary School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m..

Following the election, the city will hold a budget workshop for the new council on October 24.

The new council members will be sworn in on Nov. 7, ahead of their inaugural meeting. The remainder of that week leading up to Remembrance Day will consist of council orientation.

The newly elected local representatives will hold their first regular meeting on Nov. 14.
