GoByBike Week

Fall Bike Week underway

Oct 4, 2022 | 4:20 PM

People in the North Okanagan are hitting the road on their bikes for the fall edition of GoByBike Week this month.

The semi-annual challenge encourages people to leave their cars at home and instead mount their bikes for daily commutes between Monday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 6.

Participants who sign up for GoByBike Week can log their trips for a chance to win prizes, including a getaway at Sparkling Hill Resort and $1,000 credit to a local bike shop.

Riders who log at least one trip also have the chance to win provincial prizes, including a self-guided cycling trip for two in Italy.

Along with riding bikes, people can hit the road on other small-wheeled transport like skateboards, kick-scooters and rollerblades. They can also log those trips and be entered to win the prizes.

Additionally, the City of Vernon is marking GoByBike Week by hosting several events:

  • Oct. 3-11: Story Time Trail at Marshall Fields
  • Oct. 4, 5 to 7 p.m.: Info station at Ranger Park (1900 47th Ave.)
  • Oct. 6, 8 to 10 a.m.: Celebration Station at Natures Fare Market (3400 30th Ave.)
  • Oct 12-16: Story Time Trail at Kalamalka Lake Rd at Browne Road.
  • Oct 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Info station at Cycle Cycle Bike Drive (4249 Alexis Park Dr.)
