The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce is helping out 4-H youth from the area who lost all their equipment and animals in a horrific head-on collision between two semi-tractor trailer units, near Golden on August 28.

The crash killed three men and dozens of prize dairy cattle headed for the Interior Provincial Exhibition from a show in Brandon, Manitoba.

The accident impacted 17 4-H members, many of them from the Milky Way 4-H Dairy Club, which has members in the Armstrong and Enderby areas.

The Harvest Pumpkin Festival Family Day is on Saturday, October 8 at the IPE fairgrounds.

The annual pancake breakfast will be by donation beginning at 7:30 a.m. until 10:30.a.m. or until the pancakes run out.

“All proceeds will go to the Milky Way 4-H to assist them in replacing their equipment lost in the accident a few weeks ago.’ Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce manager Patti Noonan said.

The equipment can cost between $2,500 and $3,000 per member.

“It has been devastating for them, not only have they lost their animals, but they now need to replace their equipment and it is a big number for these young people,” Noonan added.
