Shuswap RCMP officers won’t be charged after suspect injured in arrest: Crown

Sep 29, 2022 | 11:50 AM

The B.C. Prosecution Service (BCPS) says it will not charge a pair of Shuswap RCMP officers, despite the province’s police watchdog saying the two may have committed offences in a 2020 arrest.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) looked into an April, 2020 incident in which a man with outstanding warrants was seriously injured in an arrest near Sicamous.

The IIO determined two RCMP officers involved, one from Salmon Arm and one from Sicamous, may have committed offences in arresting the man, forwarding its report to the BCPS.

Now, the BCPS concluded the evidence presented does not meet the charge assessment standard.
