City could remove softball facilities in Kin Race Track Park

Kin Race Track Park (KRTP) will see some facilities removed, if a staff recommendation is accepted by Vernon council.

The city’s manager of parks and public spaces is calling for the softball diamonds, dugouts, bleachers and fencing to be removed using funds from the park’s maintenance budget.

“The diamonds in KRTP have not been reserved or booked for game play in over three years,” Kendra Kryszak said in a report to council. “The dug outs and fields are in deteriorating condition and portions of the fencing was removed to accommodate BC Wildfire crews that were stationed at the park in 2021.”

Kryszak added the only park activities that have been on the site this year are on-leash dog walking, Recreation Services camps and a few pop-up spray park activities.

“ln order for the parks department to maintain historical service levels in the majority of the parks, administration is recommending a reduced service level at KRTP similar to other dog parks in the community,” Kryszak wrote.

Kin Race Track Park on 43rd Avenue would be the location of an active living centre which is the subject of a $121 million borrowing referendum Oct. 15.
