Sep 25, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Hockey is back, and more than 2,000 fans came out for the Vernon Vipers home opener against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday night.

The SBacks spoiled the party for the home team, dominating the game with a 4-1 win, which came on the heels of Salmon Arm’s 3-0 win over the Vipers Friday at the Shaw Centre.

CJ Foley and Nathan Morin led the visitors, each with a goal and one assist, while goalie Matthew Tovell got his second straight win, making 22 saves.

Woodbridge, Ont. product Julian Facchinelli scored the first goal of the new season for Vernon, and their only goal of the game, late in the second period before 2,118 fans at Kal Tire Place.

Ethan David took the loss in net, making 27 stops.

The Vipers will look for their first win of the BCHL season up north next weekend when they visit the Prince George Spruce Kings for two games at the Kopar Memorial Arena.
