Sep 16, 2022 | 10:30 AM

Year-over-year comparisons shows Vernon’s housing builds slowed in August.

Data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) shows Greater Vernon had 12 housing projects started in August and 11 others completed.

Those stats are down slightly from the August 2021 figures, which were 13 starts and 16 completions.

The biggest year-over-year drop was in sales, which was recorded at 6 in August 2022, down from 15 the same month a year before.

CMHC reports that the new starts this past August involved six single and six semi-detached homes.

The projects completed during the same month were nine single homes and two apartments.

To date, there have been 313 housing projects started, 145 completed and 122 sold after completion in Vernon.

At the same point in time in 2021, there were 184 housing projects started, 151 completed and 145 sales.

As of August, there were still 477 housing projects still under construction in Greater Vernon. Those involve 174 single houses, 46 semi-detached homes, 89 row houses and 168 apartments.
