Sustainability Grants

City to offer funding for sustainability projects

Sep 14, 2022 | 3:14 PM

The City of Vernon will offer an opportunity to support sustainability projects.

The fall intake period for Vernon’s 2022 Sustainability Grants program will open next week. Vernon residents, youth, non-profit organizations and community groups can apply for grants of up to $1,000 to support their projects.

Eligible projects can include:

  • Establishing or improving a neighbourhood community garden
  • Building educational or demonstration displays for conservation
  • Undertaking energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction projects

“Fostering sustainable actions at a local level is more important than ever,” Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming said in reaction to the news. “The Sustainability Grants program provides an exciting opportunity for residents in our community to connect with each other and build their own ideas from the ground up.”

The program application period for the fall intake is September 22 to October 24. The application form is available on the City’s website.

Questions relating to the grants can be directed to Vernon’s environmental planning assistant, Jack Shipton at sustainability@vernon.ca or 250-550-3634.

The city confirmed with Vernon Matters Thursday that a total of $4,000 is available for these grants.

The inaugural Sustainability Grants, which was launched in April 2022, also saw $3,000 sent out to support local projects.
