BMX hosts 40th anniversary race party

Aug 10, 2022 | 1:00 PM

Four decades of BMX memories will come together at a special event this month at Vernon’s Ranger Park.

The BMX club is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 28, and past racers and parents of riders are encouraged to attend.

“Did you race back in the 80’s? Did you cheer your kids around the track in the 90’s? Did you fly over the jumps in the 00’s? Are you still racing today? Come on down to Ranger Park to celebrate the history and future of the Vernon BMX club,” a news release from the club stated.

Free, one day memberships will be provided for anyone wanting to ride the track, with registration from 3-4 p.m. and racing to follow.

“Make your own motos with friends and family, one lap takes all! Trophies will be awarded to race winners,” the club said.

A concession will be open for drinks and snacks with a free dinner once the races are done.

Later that night, the 80’s BMX movie RAD will be shown under the stars on a big screen.

“Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate! Bring lawn chairs and blankets for the movie,” the news release said.

Ranger Park is located at 1900 47th Avenue.
