Vernon Farmers Market to close early due to heat

Jul 27, 2022 | 6:30 AM

The hot weather is having an impact on the hours at the Vernon Farmers Market.

The popular attraction, which is held twice a week in the Kal Tire Place parking lot, will shut down an hour earlier than normal for its event this Thursday (July 28), a day when the temperature is forecast to reach 38 degrees.

“A heat warning has been issued throughout the Okanagan for Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Vernon Farmer’s Market will close at noon (12 pm), instead of 1:00 this Thursday,” said a posting on the event’s Facebook page.

“We are following Work Safe BC along with [BC Centre For Disease Control] advice, keeping our staff, vendors and customers safe from heat stress and possible heat stroke.”

People planning to visit the market on Thursday are advised to pack lots of water, sunscreen, to wear loose fitting clothes and to leave pets at home.

“With temperatures predicted to reach over 35 degrees Celsius, the pavement will be over 65 degrees Celsius,” the posting stated.

The market hours will be 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
