Local Indigenous leaders react to Pope’s apology
Indigenous leaders from across the country travelled to the Edmonton area to witness Pope Francis’s apology for the Catholic Church’s role in residential schools — including Tk’emlups te Secwépemc Ku̓kpi7 Rosanne Casmir and past chief of the Whispering Pines Clinton Indian Band Mike LeBourdais.
“I believe [the apology] to be truly sincere,” said Casimir.
“He truly expressed that he begs for forgiveness. He spoke about the justice and reconciliation.”
