Ducks for dogs fundraiser a hit

There will be some fast moving rubber ducks racing through Polson Park on Saturday.

The Vernon Lions Club “Ducks for Dogs fundraising event” allows members of the community to “adopt” a rubber duck for $5. The ducks are then dropped into a Vernon Creek and race to the finish line to win prizes for their adoptive parents

Four-thousand ducks will be dropped into the creek. “We are sold out of ducks and a net of $21,531 has been raised for BC & Alberta Guide Dogs to bring another dog to an autistic child in the North Okanagan,” Vernon Lions Club President Sharon Cain said.

Silver Star Mountain Resort has matched every ticket sold with a $1.00 donation.

The event will feature family-friendly games, a fish pond, The Vernon Lions food truck will be on site for lunch, the Kalamalka Caring Klowns will attend, and entertainment by the Vernon Community Band.

William Thornton of BC & Alberta Guide Dogs, and his dogs will lead blindfolded people through a maze to show the skill set of the guide dogs.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the duck race around 2 p.m.
