Taxes Due July 4

Vernon to issue property tax notices next week

May 20, 2022 | 12:17 PM

The City of Vernon will be putting the 2022 property tax notices in the mail on Thursday, May 26.

The deadline for residents to pay their taxes without a penalty is July 4.

The city reminds residents that taxes can be paid at the City Hall cashier station, online through a financial institution, by cheque through the mail, or by using the 24-hour drop box at City Hall.

It was noted that payments by mail will be processed on the day they’re received and not the day they were postmarked.

Along with the payment, eligible homeowners who wish to take advantage of the Home Owner Grant will need to submit a completed application by July 4.

The B.C. Home Owner Grant, which reduces the amount of property tax paid on a principal residence, was changed in 2021 and requires all applications to be submitted online or by phone through the province at 1-888-355-2700.

Most property owners could qualify for a regular grant of $770 in the North Okanagan, though seniors, veterans, people living with a disability, those living with a spouse or relative with a disability and people who is a spouse or relative of a deceased owner, can apply for an additional grant.

More details on the B.C. Home Owners Grant can be found on the province’s website.
