The two new child care facilities being built in Vernon are still on track to open on schedule.

A report to Vernon City Council Monday, April 25, shows ongoing work for the facilities at the recreation centre and at Lakers Clubhouse in Okanagan Landing is moving forward.

Sawchuck Developments, which is building the Recreation Complex Care Facility, has fully installed the roof sheathing and the underlayment water membrane.

The framing for the interior walls is also being completed, as is the install of exterior windows and doors.

The report stated that the facility will be at the lock-up stage by the end of April, allowing the work to install plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems to start.

The Lakers Child Care Facility, which is being built by ANR Construction, is nearing the end of the electrical, HVAC and plumbing installs.

Drywall is being set up at the site, and that work is expected to continue through May.

The exterior finishing, roofing and siding of the Lakers facility is in the process of being installed, and work is underway to install the concrete walkways, sidewalks and pads.

The report stated that both projects are on time and on budget.

Once completed, the two facilities will create approximately 200 new licensed child care spaces for area children. The facilities are both expected to open in the fall.
