Vipers out of playoffs after game 5 loss to Warriors

The BCHL season has come to an end for the Vernon Vipers.

The West Kelowna Warriors eliminated the Vipers with a 7-2 win in game 5 of their first round BCHL series Friday night, winning four games to one.

Felix Trudeau, a native of Terrebonne, Quebec, was named the first star with a goal and one assist for the Warriors who were outshot by the Vipers 36-35 before 1,478 fans at Royal Lepage Place in West Kelowna.

Ryan Shostak and Zack Tonelli scored the Vernon goals with Ethan David taking the loss in net.

Vipers coach and GM Jason McKee was proud of his team’s effort in the series.

“We didn’t score, but the kids worked hard,” McKee told the post-game show on Beach Radio. “I don’t want this to come off as negative; they played really, really hard and created a lot of opportunities. The grade A’s were there, we just didn’t score. Offence comes and goes, and in this series, it just wasn’t there for us.”

Nine Viper players will be moving on, either aging-out or going to college: Zack Tonelli, Talon Zackall, Matt Culling, Jack Glen, Cade McNelly, Nick Kent, Ryan Shostak, Cam MacDonald and team captain JoJo Tanaka-Campbell.

The Penticton Vees defeated the Trail Smoke Eaters 5-1 on Thursday to take that Interior series in five games.
