Water Main Work

Greater Vernon neighbourhoods to be impacted by water main repairs Monday

Apr 8, 2022 | 5:35 PM

Greater Vernon Water says several neighbourhoods in Vernon and the regional district will be affected by planned repairs to a water main Monday, April 11.

Customers in N. Aberdeen, French, Pottery, Black Rock, Nickle, Buchanan and Binns Road areas will see their water supply and quality impacted by the work, which is set to go Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An air valve on the water main needs to be replaced. The work will require depressurization, which creates an increase risk of back siphonage, and will result in water service being interrupted.

It’s expected that the work will be completed during the time frame, barring any unforseen circumstances creating extended interruptions.

Greater Vernon Water (GVW) recommends affected residents have a short-term water supply stored before the work starts.

Additionally, GVW, in conjunction with Interior Health, will place customers in the above areas under a precautionary water quality advisory starting Monday.

While under the advisory, affected customers can expect to some turbidity or cloudiness in their water, and people are advised to run their cold taps until the water runs clear.

While under the advisory, people are also asked to be cautious when consuming tap water, especially young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. The GVW recommends people boil their water for a full minute before consuming, using to brush their teeth, and using to make or prepare food or drinks.

The GVW, through the Regional District of North Okanagan, will rescind the water quality advisory when sampling and testing results shows the water is once again safe to consume.
