Interior closes out week with 103 new COVID-19 cases, one death

Interior Health (IH) finished off the week with the highest concentration of new COVID-19 cases in B.C.

IH reported 103 of the 357 cases confirmed throughout the province Friday. Fraser Health had the second most daily cases at 97, followed by Vancouver Coastal Health at 82.

One death linked to COVID-19 was also confirmed in the Interior, while three others were identified across the province.

To date, 3,002 British Columbians have died due to the virus, 367 of which have come from the Interior.

As of Friday there were 274 British Columbians in hospital with COVID-19, down seven from the day before. Of those patients, 35 were in intensive care, marking a decrease of seven from Thursday.

The provincial COVID-19 vaccination rates for eligible British Columbians age five and older rose to 90.9 per cent for first doses and 87.4 per cent for second jabs Friday.

Additionally, the third dose coverage for 12 and over rose to 57.6 per cent.

There were nine health-care facilities still listed as active outbreaks sites in the province. Lumby’s Monashee Mews assisted living facility and the Parkview Place facility in Enderby were the only active sites in the Interior.
