Hopefully it’s not a sign of things to come this spring and summer.

Vernon firefighters put out a small grass fire in Becker Park next to the Vernon Curling Club and Recreation Complex around 4:00 p.m. today (March 9).

The fire crews extinguished the blaze using ground tools and water.

“Three fire apparatus attended the scene, including Vernon’s new wildland truck, which is designed to go off-road and provide resources where larger fire trucks cannot gain access,” said Christy Poirier, communications manager for the city

Poirier said no structures were at risk and no injuries were reported during the incident.

Police were called to the scene to investigate the cause.
