COVID-19 treatments available to prevent severe illness
B.C. residents with confirmed cases of COVID-19 can access online and virtual services to see if they could receive and benefit from anti-viral treatments.
Two therapeutic treatments are approved for people with confirmed cases, who are at high risk and are not in hospital. Sotrovimab must be given through a vein and requires a visit to a clinic or hospital, while Paxlovid is an anti-viral pill that can be taken at home.
The treatments are used to prevent severe illness in people who are at higher risk from COVID-19 and need to be started within five days of developing symptoms to be most effective.
