UPDATE: Vipers run winning streak to 9

More shootout magic for the Vernon Vipers as they edged the Cranbrook Bucks 2-1 on Saturday night to extend their winning streak to nine games.

Seiya Tanaka-Campbell scored his first goal of the season and Ethan David stopped 34 of 35 shots as the Vipers improved to 16-14-3-3 and in 6th place in the Interior Division.

Anthony Cliche got the shootout winner before a crowd of 2,050 at Western Financial Place in the East Kootenays.

The Vipers have seven straight wins in extra time and are now 7-7-2-3 away from Kal Tire Place.

The Vipers will wrap up their 7-game road trip Wednesday night in Penticton.

In the KIJHL, the Revelstoke Grizzlies blanked the North Okanagan Knights 4-0 on Saturday.

In the WHL, the Kelowna Rockets win streak grew to eight games with a 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans at the Toyota Centre in Kennewick, WA.

The Rockets were playing their second of three games in as many nights after defeating the Spokane Chiefs 4-1 Friday.

Life on the road is treating the Vernon Vipers just fine.

The BCHL club made it eight straight wins Friday night with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Cranbrook Bucks at Western Financial Place.

Their impressive unbeaten string includes five consecutive wins on the road.

Anthony Cliche and Griffen Barr twinkled the twine for Vernon in regulation time before the 2,048 fans in the East Kootenay city.

Viper goalie Roan Clarke stopped both Cranbrook shooters in the shootout while Zack Tonelli and Talon Zakall lit the red light for Vernon.

The eight straight wins has put the Vipers in 6th place in the Interior Division with a record of 15-14-3-3, five points back of the fifth place Bucks.

The Snakes and Bucks play again in Cranbrook Saturday at 6 p.m. PST, with Graham Turnbull’s pre game show on Beach Radio/Vernon Matters at 5:45 p.m.
