Public input is being sought to determine the future look of Vernon’s popular ‘peanut pool.’

The city has launched a survey to gather feedback on a conceptual design to upgrade the Lakeview Wading Pool in East Hill, known for its peanut shape.

Families have been enjoying the pool since it opened in 1958.

“Through the engagement process of the 2018 Recreation Master Plan, community members identified the need to modernize the pool to ensure it is adequate for recreation, swimming lessons and other aquatic safety courses,” a city news release stated. “Additionally, a revitalization was deemed necessary to help sustain and enhance the quality of local outdoor pools by improving accessibility for users.”

A conceptual design has been developed for the pool, the washroom and change room facility, and an adjacent portion of park space for a small spray park.

The city applied for a federal-provincial grant for the project in late 2020, and is still waiting to see if that will be approved.

“If the grant application is successful, this consultation will help the city be able to proceed with upgrades to the facility. If the application is not successful, this consultation and design work will help to improve the city’s chances with future grant funding applications,” the city release said.

The public survey will be open until February 21, 2022 at www.engagevernon.ca/lakeviewpool.
