Vipers upset league-leading SBacks in OT

Fans were treated to one of the most entertaining games of the season at Kal Tie Place with the Vernon Vipers coming back to edge the BCHL-leading Salmon Silverbacks 4-3 in overtime.

Cam MacDonald was the hero for Vernon with two goals and two assists including the winner 40 seconds into the first overtime.

Friday night’s game featured a COVID sellout of 1,500 fans.

Ryan Shostak and Zack Tonelli also scored for the Vipers who got their third straight win.

Roan Clarke made 27 saves for the victory in net as Vernon came back from a 3-1 deficit.

Mathieu Bourgault led the Silverbacks with a goal and one helper in just their fourth loss in 29 games.

Vernon improved to 10-14-3-3 and play their next seven games on the road, starting Tuesday against the Merritt Centennials, 7:00 p.m. on 107.5 Beach Radio and Vernon Matters.

In the KIJHL, Ty McNaughton scored twice for the North Okanagan Knights in a 4-3 loss to the Kelowna Chiefs in Rutland Friday.
