Vernon business gets deal with national company

A Vernon company has renewed its contract to have its products sold at Home Depot stores across Canada.

BlueSky Organics’ Whole Earth soils and fertilizers, which are designed for organic growing, will be available at 182 Home Depot outlets for the 2022 lawn and garden season.

BlueSky officials say they conducted extensive research that found a gap in the market for easy to use and made for organic growing products. The line consists of five products: a rooting/seed starter, vegetable and herb fertilizer, a bloom enhancer, a soil regenerator, and an environmentally safe lawn fertilizer called Green-Up.

“These products and recyclable packaging are aligned with our global mission of taking care of our planet and each other. They are pollinator-friendly, child and pet safe,” said Mary Horvatincic, BlueSky Organics co-founder and CEO. “Why are we still using chemicals that could potentially harm our families and the environment? It is 2022 and we need to make drastic changes in this industry that support these values.”

Horvatincic said 2020-2021 saw a record number of new gardeners enter the market led by generation Xers and millennials, two age groups that are concerned about what is in the food they eat.

“A Dalhousie University study of 2020 gardening trends found over 50 percent of people grow food at home to reduce their environmental impact. 66.9 percent of long-time gardeners and 56.1 percent of new gardeners agree that homegrown food was healthier than food purchased from food retailers,” said the company CEO.

BlueSky will begin filling orders from Home Depot stores on January 21. The products are also sold in several independent garden centres, such as Briteland Garden Centre, Swan Lake Market and Garden, and Golden Acres Garden Centre.
