Vipers edge Spruce Kings to finish first half on winning note

The Vernon Vipers gave their fans an early Christmas present, a 2-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings at Kal Tire Place Saturday night.

The win ended a four game losing streak for Vernon who go into the holiday break with a 6-12-3-3 record, in 8th place in the Interior Division.

Ryan Shostak snapped a 1-1 tie with the winner midway through the third period, much to the delight of the 1,278 fans on hand. Max Borovinskiy also turned on the red light for the home team.

Ethan David made 27 saves for the win as the Vipers rebounded from a 6-0 loss to the Penticton Vees the night before, a game they were outshot 46-13 by the first place Vees.

The Vipers next play Jan. 1 when they host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks for a 2:00 p.m. game.

In the KIJHL, the North Okanagan Knights defeated the Sicamous Eagles 5-4 in overtime in Armstrong, getting two goals and one assist from Tyler Burke.

The Knights next play on Jan.1 when they visit the Osoyoos Coyotes.
