New snow leads to rash of accidents around Vernon

It has been a busy morning for emergency crews as the fresh snow has produced a number of crashes around the Vernon area.

Two people were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries after an accident on Highway 97 north of Vernon just after 8:30 a.m.

There was also a crash on Highway 97 south of Vernon near the turn-off to Predator Ridge (Bailey Road) around 7:00 a.m.

Also, a vehicle went into the ditch near Fitness West on Highway 6. and a transport truck reportedly jack-knifed in the area near Kal Tire Place and Alexis Park School.

The roads are icy and motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions and slow down.

“So far today, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have had seven collisions reported in our area,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer in an email to Vernon Matters around 11:45 a.m. “The initial reports, thankfully, do not indicate anything more than minor injuries in any of the collisions.”

Environment Canada expects the flurries to end around mid day, followed by a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon. Colder weather will then move in with a low of minus 12 tonight.
