Osoyoos cancels plan to expand child care centre

Osoyoos is scrapping its plans to expand its child care centre.

The South Okanagan town received a nearly $900,000 grant in 2019 through a federal-provincial program to buy new equipment and build a 3,200 square-foot addition to its facility.

After extensive consultations, the town says its plans were deemed unachievable with the available funding, even after attempts to scale back its original plans.

Town council voted to kill the project last week, but says it intends to include funding to create a childcare needs assessment and strategic plan into the 2022 to 2026 financial plan.
