BCHL Showcase starts today

Oct 20, 2021 | 10:00 AM

The 2021 BCHL Showcase gets underway to day at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

The Prince George Spruce Kings and the Wenatchee Wild kick off the event this afternoon and will mark the start of 18 regular-season games over a five-day stretch, all in the same location.

The Vernon Vipers will take on the Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and then battle the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 11 a.m. Sunday, with both games on 107.5 Beach Radio/Vernon Matters with Graham Turnbull.

West Kelowna Warriors will take on the Victoria Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. Friday for their first of two games.

As is the case with previous BCHL Showcase events, there will be over 100 scouts in attendance, representing all NHL teams and the majority of NCAA Division I programs.

“This event acts as the kickoff to the season and gives our players their first chance to showcase themselves in front of NHL scouts and NCAA coaches,” said BCHL Deputy Commissioner Steven Cocker. “For many players, it’s their first opportunity to start discussions with schools and begin taking steps towards achieving their NCAA Division I goals.”

Fans are also able to attend this year’s BCHL Showcase under Provincial Health Office regulations which cap attendance at 50 per cent.

“The chance to get our fans back into our buildings again and put on a show for them is so important,” said Cocker. “They have been so loyal to their teams and to the league over the past 17 months, so we are thrilled to be able to reward them.”
