Evacuation order rescinded for 45 properties near Westwold, Paxton Valley

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has rescinded an evacuation order in place for 45 properties in the area of Paxton Valley, Monte Lake and Westwold.

Residents of the following properties are now allowed to return home, but remain on evacuation alert:

• 8640 and 8700 Douglas Lake Rd;
• 4120 and 4249 Kristianson Rd;
• 4025 to 5970 Paxton Valley Rd;
• 5209 Six Mile Creek Rd;
• 4294 Strong Rd;
• 5469 to 5545 Westlund Rd; and
• any other properties identified in the map below:

Many of these properties have been on evacuation order since August 5, when the White Rock Lake fire made fast advances to the northeast.

The fire, which was discovered more than a month ago near Douglas Lake, has steadily moved north and east and is now measured at more than 78,000 hectares.
