NANAIMO — An 18-month-old toddler was unharmed after the truck he was riding in was destroyed in an collision with a semi-truck.

The pickup truck crept into the intersection of the Nanaimo Parkway and Old Island Hwy., near the northern ‘Nanaimo’ sign, around 8:40 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 9.

Police said the truck clipped the side of a semi, destroying the truck and forcing the semi to veer into the ditch.

Despite the heavy damage to the truck, there were no injuries.

The son’s father told police he’d taken his foot off the brake when stopped at the intersection to tend to his son.

The intersection was closed for roughly one hour, limiting morning traffic to one lane going south.
