Temporary change for Vernon vaccination clinic parking

Jun 23, 2021 | 3:00 PM

People with appointments to get a COVID-19 vaccine at the Vernon Recreation Centre auditorium next week are being advised about a minor change to the parking.

A road construction and paving project on 39th Avenue will close access to the Curling Rink parking lot between Monday and Wednesday (June 28-30). Vaccination clinic attendees are asked to use one of the following parking lots:

  • Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre (access off of 33rd Street)
  • Recreation Centre main entrance area (access off of 33rd Street or 35th Avenue)
  • Halina Centre (access off of 35th Avenue)

“The Vernon Aquatic Centre is currently closed for annual maintenance, so there is ample parking available around the Recreation Centre complex,” said Christy Poirier, Manager, Communications and Grants. “The temporary road closure will not have any impact on vaccination attendees’ appointments.”

Access to the vaccination clinic will remain at the north end of the Recreation Centre, at the rear of the building, directly into the Auditorium. Once the paving project is complete, clinic attendees are asked to resume parking in the Curling Rink lot.

The road construction on 39th Avenue will take place between 32nd Street (HWY 97) and 36A Street. Initial works will begin June 24 and traffic control personnel will be on site to help guide motorists through the area safely.

Between June 28 – 30, 39th Avenue will be closed for local access only.

To reduce the impact to motorists, milling and paving between 32nd Street and 33rd Street will begin at 4:00 a.m. and is estimated to be completed by 8:00 a.m., so that section of 39th Avenue can be accessible for morning commuters and clinic attendees.

The city reminds motorists to slow down if traveling near the area and to obey all traffic control devices and personnel, and apologizes for any inconvenience this project may cause.

Below is a map of the construction area, the early morning work area, and the temporary parking lot changes for the Interior Health COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic.
