Dead-end danger: resident fears for safety

A resident from 4010-33rd Street in Vernon, behind the Econo Lodge Motel, has contacted a city council member expressing safety concerns.

“It appears he is having some issues with traffic. It is at a dead-end. He is not happy with how the signage is because people are driving right up to his property,” Coun. Dalvir Nahal said.

The street is often used as a bypass of busy 32nd Street, with motorists unfamiliar with the area driving at speed past the no-thru signage, at the intersection of 33rd Street and 42nd Avenue.

“Coming quite fast, and he is concerned for his safety. I know bylaw has been there a few times,” Nahal added.

The resident put out a couple of planters with private property on them, but those had to be removed from the roadway. He also posted video surveillance and no exit signage.

“Since those were removed, he has had 33 vehicles pull into his property,” Nahal added.

Staff will review the matter to see if there is anything that can be done to make the situation safer.
