What would you like to see in Vernon’s budget?

The City of Vernon is looking for feedback on how it should spend taxpayers money.

The city has started the process of preparing its 2022 budget, and the first part of that is finding out what residents and businesses have to say.

“Input from citizens helps mayor and council understand the public’s priorities for city services and helps better inform council’s financial decisions,” a city news release said.

The annual operating and capital budget is part of the city’s five-year financial plan to maintain and improve municipal services and support Council’s Strategic Plan.

As part of the public consultation process, a survey is now available online at engagevernon.ca. The survey asks if various services are currently meeting public expectation and what are the ways the service could be improved if they are not.

The 2022 budget survey includes videos, links and background information on the different services to help guide participants through the process. The survey is available until June 30. The results will be reviewed and a report will be prepared for council to consider.

The budget survey is just the first step in developing the budget and the next Five-Year Financial Plan. Additional public participation will be available during council’s budget deliberations normally held in November or early December.
