The community is being asked to help out an elderly Coldstream resident who lost everything in a fire.

It started in the kitchen of one unit at the Lakeway Mobile Home Park off Kalamalka Road Wednesday afternoon (May 26).

“The house is a total write-off, it’s a total loss,” Lakeway Park superintendent Dennis Webb told Vernon Matters, adding it started from a deep fryer on the stove.

“It exploded, and there was fire everywhere,” Webb said.

Webb said a man from across the street saw the smoke coming from the home.

“He said he has never ran so fast in his life. He ran over there, and the lady in the house was disoriented and shocked. He opened the door, reached in and grabbed a hold of her and dragged her out, and her dog.”

The Coldstream Fire Department responded with a number of firefighters and vehicles and kept the fire contained to unit 171.

Webb is accepting donations of cash, or necessary items, to help the woman recover at his shop by the park’s main entrance.

“I’ve got a sign on my shop building at Lakeway saying she has lost everything and donations are gratefully accepted,” Webb explained. “Money for sure. Somebody brought down a television set, along with dishes, blankets and comforters. Any donations towards her recovery would be gratefully accepted at the shop.”

The mobile home park is at 15401 Kalamalka Road in Coldstream, across from Dutch’s Campground.

You can call Webb at 250-260-0786 for more information.

The fire victim is staying with a relative at this point, and it’s believed she was insured.
