Five storey condo approved on Okanagan Lake

Vernon council has given approval for rezoning two properties at 7497 and 7501 Brooks Lane to allow for a 17-unit, five storey development on Okanagan Lake, near the Strand.

The Brooks Landing project was first proposed in 2019 as a six storey, 19-unit development, which was rejected by council following a public hearing.

The plans were tweaked to the current 17-unit configuration, including 13 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom, and council approved three readings of the rezoning.

The applicant sought, and was granted, a one-year extension for the project which would have run out in October 2021.

On Monday, council adopted the rezoning to change from “R1: Estate Lot Residential” to “C10A: Tourist Commercial and Residential” and “P1: Parks and Open Space”.

The developer will be required to provide a two metre statutory right-of-way along the east side of the property to allow public access to the foreshore and through to Okanagan Landing Road.

A six metre width of land along the lakeshore would be dedicated as a public park.
