Downtown Vernon businesses engaged on street closures
The Downtown Vernon Association (DVA) is freeing up staff time to talk to downtown business owners about the potential closure of the 2900 and 3000 blocks of 30th Avenue.
The idea had been discussed pre-pandemic, but was back on the table when indoor dining was banned. Those restrictions were lifted on Tuesday, May 25, with the province allowing indoor and outdoor dining for up to six people with safety protocols.
Council members talked to numerous 30th Avenue business owners and found a mixed response, with those in the 2900 block mostly in favour, and those in the 3000 block mostly opposed.
The DVA is shifting workloads to accomodate the request including postponing their Annual General Meeting and cancelling an event.
