Hillview Heights townhome development in new hands

May 3, 2021 | 6:00 AM

A 48-unit townhome development along Highway Six in Vernon has been purchased by a Lower Mainland developer and is getting closer to shovels in the ground.

“Things are going exceptionally well. We have owned the property for two months now and phase one is sold out,” developer John McKay told Vernon Matters. “We have jumped through all the hoops, we have just completed all the disclosure statements and all the requirements that allow us to get in the ground.”

The home protection warranty work is completed and the developer is awaiting building permits from the city.

The townhomes are three bedroom, three and a half bath, two storey with full basements, ranging from 1,866 to 2,531 square feet.

The development is accessed from 15th Avenue and is framed by two ravines and Highway Six.

Some residents in the surrounding neighborhood have expressed concern about 15th Avenue being the only access to the area.

McKay indicated that issue had been dealt with by the previous owner when the city approved the subdivision, noting all issues are looked at in that process.

“People are looking forward to seeing the product come out of the ground. The interest has been pretty far and wide. We have had buyers from Alberta, the Lower Mainland and Kelowna, that speaks highly of Vernon, that such a diverse group wants to buy and live there, retire there,” McKay said.

Prices for the sold-out phase one ranged from $499,000 to $549,900 plus GST.

McKay has previously been involved in a single family subdivision in at 7608 Coldstream Creek Road.

Twelve of the 48 units have been purchased.
